Jakarta: Indonesia's diplomatic efforts are key to secure covid-19 vaccine supplies from vaccine producing countries, especially China, according to Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Mahendra Siregar.

According to him, the Indonesian government has approached China and Chinese vaccine manufacturers since April 2020.

"We can say that the vaccination program is running well due to the existence of a good
cooperation with China," he revealed in a webinar titled Current Relationship Between Indonesia-China here on Tuesday.

Mahendra stated that the current ongoing vaccination mostly uses the Sinovac covid-19 vaccine Sinovac from China.

He added that the Indoneian government is also establish cooperation with other Chinese vaccine manufacturers, such as Sinopharm, CanSino and Anhui Zhifei Longcom.

Nevertheless, in order to boost the vaccination push, Indonesia has to keep trying to produce its own vaccine.

"Though, the main challenge is our massive population," Mahendra concluded. (Translator: Natasha Celia)
