"These bombings are undoubtedly contemptible and uncivilized acts and should be tackled and halted. Avoid associating it with the perpetrators' religions else the issue has the potential to have wide-ranging repercussions," MUI Secretary General Anwar Abbas stated here on Monday.
Abbas voiced MUI's unequivocal denouncement to the blasts that claimed some 200 lives and caused injuries to no less than 450 people.
"The MUI expressed its condolences to the families of the victims, so they stay firm and patient in the face of this trial," he added.
The MUI is upbeat that the local police would promptly unearth details and take the perpetrators of these inhumane acts into custody and ensure they undergo the legal process by taking them to court for trial and be awarded maximum punishment.
On Sunday (Apr 21), at around 9 a.m. local time, coinciding with Easter Day, explosions ripped through many churches and five-star hotels across Colombo.
The Sri Lankan police reported that the blasts claimed at least 207 lives and caused injuries to 450 people.
The Indonesian Government believes that the Sri Lankan Government can handle the situation well and is also willing to provide necessary assistances.
“Indonesia strongly condemns the attacks in Sri Lanka. On behalf of all the people of Indonesia, I express deep condolences to the Government of Sri Lanka and the entire family of the victims. Hopefully the injured victims can recover soon,” President Jokowi tweeted in his twitter account @jokowi, Sunday (21/4) night.
Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a press release said that the Indonesian Embassy in Colombo continued to monitor the progress of the situation and had coordinated with local security authorities, hospitals and the association of Indonesian citizens.
“Until now there has been no information about Indonesian citizens who are victims of the incident,” the Ministry wrote, adding that there are around 374 Indonesian citizens living in Sri Lanka, with approximately 140 people in Colombo, the capital city. (Antara)
