Jakarta: New Zealand is providing an additional NZ$ 1.5 million to support Indonesia in its response to surging covid-19 cases.

"New Zealand will contribute 100 nasal high flow Airvo 2 devices from Fisher & Paykel Healthcare to respond to the urgent need for medical equipment in Indonesia," said the country's Foreign Affairs and Trade Ministry in a press release on Thursday.

A contribution of NZ$500,000 has been provided to the World Health Organisation (WHO) for the procurement of rapid anti-gen testing kits.  These kits will ensure tests can processed directly at the point-of-care, with a result available within 30 minutes.

Furthermore an additional contribution of NZ$270,000 will be provided to the Eijkman Institute in Indonesia to support its genomic sequencing capacity.  The Eijkman Institute for Molecular Biology is a non-profit, government funded research institute based in Jakarta.  New Zealand previously provided NZ$650,000 in support to the Institute at the start of the pandemic.

"The funding announced today represents New Zealand’s commitment to support Indonesia
to meet the challenges of covid-19, working closely with Indonesian authorities including
their Ministry of Health and Ministry of Foreign Affairs," it stated.

"New Zealand has a long-standing development cooperation partnership with Indonesia,
including readily responding to disasters where required such as the sharp spike in cases
they are currently facing," it added.

New Zealand previously contributed NZ$11.2 million in assistance for the COVID-19
situation in Indonesia, including support for prevention and risk communication, vaccine
roll-out planning, PCR testing capability, and the delivery of personal protective equipment
    and hygiene supplies.
