    TNI Personnel to Support ADF's Bushfire Response

    Jakarta: 38 military engineers from the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) has arrived in Australia to help fight bushfires in New South Wales (NSW).

    Arriving in NSW on Sunday, February 2, 2020, The Indonesian military engineers were welcomed by Indonesian Ambassador to Australia Kristiarto Legowo, Indonesian Consul General to Sydney Heru Subolo and several Australian Defence Force (ADF) officials.

    "Indonesia's assistance is a reflection of true friendship and partnership between Indonesia and Australia," Kristiarto said in a press release issued on Monday, February 3, 2020.

    According to Ambassador Kristiarto, Indonesia and Australia have suffered the damages due to natural disasters, and have worked continuously to support each other on humanitarian and disaster relief from Cyclone Tracy in 1947, the Aceh Tsunami in 2004 to Sulawesi Earthquakes in 2019. 

    As a result, the shared experience has encouraged both countries to develop each other's capabilities and strengthened partnership. 

    The disaster has hit Australia since mid-2019, killing at least 33 people and forcing thousands of people to leave their homes.
