    China Supports Indonesia's Proposal to Establish Joint Task Force

    Jakarta: Chinese Ambassador to ASEAN Deng Xijun has welcomed Indonesia's proposal to establish a joint task torce that will enhance collaboration between China and ASEAN members in dealing with the COVID-19 outbreak.

    "Any initiatives, proposals and coooperation ideas that can help tackle the spread of the virus will be supported by China," the Chinese diplomat told a press conference here on Friday, February 21, 2020.

    According to the Chinese official, closer cooperation has been developed by ASEAN member countries, China, Japan and South Korea since the beginning of February 2020.

    "There are video conferences between doctors and experts," he stated.

    The ASEAN-China Foreign Ministers Meeting on COVID-19 took place in Vientiane, Laos on Thurday, February 20, 2020. The meeting was attended by foreign ministers of ASEAN member countries as well as Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi.

    During the meeting, Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi sconveyed several important steps to enhance collaboration in the region. She proposed the establishment of ASEAN-China Ad-Hoc Health Ministers Joint Task Force. 

    In addition, Indonesia proposed a hotline between ASEAN and PRC to exchange the latest information. Indonesia also expressed its readiness to share various experiences in handling tropical epidemics and diseases.
