Jakarta: President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo believes that a reward and punishment system is needed to motivate Supreme Court (MA) judges.

"Their good performance should be appreciated. We should realize a clean judicial system," President Jokowi said at Jakarta Convention Center (JCC), Senayan, Central Jakarta on Wednesday, February 26, 2020.

"That is the thing that is expected by all people in Indonesia," the president added.

On Wednesday morning, the former Jakarta governor attended the MA's Special Plennary Session. The Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) politician was accompanied by Vice President Ma'ruf Amin and other government officials.

Nevertheless, he acknowleged that the MA recorded a good performance in 2019. He welcomed the commitment of the state institution to realize a wide range of reforms.

According to the MA, there were only 217 unfinished cases last year. It was the lowest number of unfinished cases in the history of the institution.
