Jakarta: The Regional Governor of Central Kalimantan, Sugianto Sabran, has said that he has cleared an around-500,000-hectare land area as the region is preparing to be the location of the Indonesian next capital city replacing Jakarta.
He said that he has proposed three cities to replace Jakarta, one of which is Palangkaraya. Moreover, Central Kalimantan has an advantage of being 1,5 wider than the island of Java.
“We are the widest province, yet we have the relatively lowest amount of populations, only 2,6 million. So, it is suitable,” he said.
He said that he did not ask for his region to be chosen as the location of the next capital city but it was long planned by the President.
“We are now just waiting. We are totally proud of being part of our country’s history,” he added.
Nevertheless, he has urged his people to prepare to embrace themselves on the day their region is officially chosen as the location of the next capital city.
“We are The Republic of Indonesia. Whether they like it or not, they must agree with this plan,” he said.
President Joko ‘Jokowi’ Widodo has already said that there are two provinces which are the strongest candidates for the location of the next capital city, they are Central Kalimantan and East Kalimantan.
He said that there are several considerations based on which the analysis of the suitable location for the next capital city has been conducted such as economic equality, natural disasters, City arrangement and spatial arrangement.
The Relocation of the central administration was mentioned by Jokowi during his state speech last Friday.
“I want to ask for your permission to relocate our capital city to Kalimantan,” he said during the speech.
