The decision was taken during the Golkar Party plenary meeting on Saturday, November 23, 2019.
"I declare myself a candidate for chairman on that day (Saturday)," said Agun at the Parliamentary Complex, Senayan, Jakarta on Tuesday, November 26, 2019.
Agun had the support of Chairman of the Golkar National Congress Organizing Committee Melchias Markus Mekeng. He esnured that Mekeng will not intervene the election.
"He will not obstruct," he said.
When asked about the amount of support, he did not want to say much. However, he stressed that the amount of support could only be seen after the election.
Agun hopes that voters can be honest and objective. Agun will compete against incumbent Airlangga Hartarto and People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) Speaker Bambang Soesatyo (Bamsoet).
"Then the voters are invited into the voting booths and then the votes would be counted,” he said.
