Jakarta: The National Police Chief General Idham Azis has removed Jakarta Metro Police Head Inspector General Nana Sudjana and West Java Police Head Inspector General Rudi Sufahradi for their failure to enforce covid-19 restrictions in the two regions.

"They failed to follow orders and enforce health protocols," said the National Police Spokesperson Inspector General Argo Yuwono here on Monday.

Earlier today, Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Mahfud MD said that the government will not hesitant to punish law enforcement officials who are reluctant to enforce health protocols and restrictions.

Previously, firebrand cleric Rizieq Shihab attracted large crowds when he organized public events in Jakarta and West Java provinces.

Last week, the Islam Defenders Front (FPI) leader returned to Indonesia after nearly three years of self-proclaimed exile in Saudi Arabia.

On the day of his return, thousands of his supporters from Greater Jakarta area and West Java Province welcomed him at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport.
