Jakarta: The Jakarta Legislative Council (DPRD) Speaker Prasetyo Edi Marsudi hopes today's anti-Job Creation Law protest in Jakarta Special Capital Region will not turn violent.

"They are allowed to hold a protest but it must not turn violent," said Prasetyo here on Tuesday.

Last week, clashes broke out between protesters and law enforcement officers in several areas in the province. As a result, several buildings and public facilities were damaged by protesters.

On Monday, the Indonesian House of Representatives passed the Job Creation Bill into law. Expect for the Democratic Party and the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS), all parties supported the passing of the bill.

However, the Job Creation Law is strongly opposed by labor unions and civil society groups. According to them, the new law appears to put the interests and demands of investors ahead of workers, communities and the environment.

"Violence will only harm people," he stated.
