    House Awaits Presidential Letter on Omnibus Bills: Deputy Speaker

    Jakarta: The House of Representatives (DPR) is still waiting for President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo to deliver a presidential letter on omnibus bills. Lawmakers cannot discuss the issue before receiving the presidential letter.

    "Not yet. It has not officially arrived at the DPR," DPR Deputy Speaker Azis Syamsuddin said here on Monday, February 3, 2020.

    Azis said the DPR will not force the government. He believes that waiting is the best option.

    Four omnibus bills has been proposed to be included in the 2020 Legislation Program. They are Omnibus Bill on Job Creation, Omnibus Bill on Pharmaceutical Sector, Omnibus Bill on Taxation and Omnibus Bill on New Capital.

    According to Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto, the purpose of the Omnibus Law is to drive and transform the economy. Therefore, new jobs can be more easily created.

    The total workforce in the country currently stands at 133.56 million. Around 126 million of workforce are employed, consisting of informal workers and formal workers.
