Natuna: Natuna's Search and Rescue (SAR) Team on Monday evacuated seven fishermen, who were saved by a Chinese ship after their boat capsized in the Natuna waters, Riau Islands.

"SAR's vessel KN Sasikirana has docked at the Penagi Port in Ranai, Natuna," Leo Umbara, an official of Natuna's search and rescue office (KKP), stated here on Monday.

According to Umbara, the fishermen’s ship KM Sidik, with six tons of fish onboard, departed from the Tanjung Village Port, Natuna, at 4 p.m. local time on Friday (June 26) and was headed to Kuala Mempawah, Pontianak, in West Kalimantan.

However, on Saturday (June 27), the boat was struck by a high wave, and it capsized near the Subi Serasan waters, Natuna.

The seven fishermen were rescued by a Chinese cargo ship Gua Yuan 28 on the China-Brazil route that was passing through the waters.

"The Gua Yuan 28 ship rescued the seven victims, six of whom survived, while one died," he noted.

All victims were shifted to the Natuna Hospital for further medical treatment.

The seven fishermen comprised the survivors -- 27-year-old skipper Porqan, Sudarman (38), Alfian (53), Teguh (29), Jamuris (55), and Lendra (33) -- and Husaini, aged 54, who died. (antara)
