Palangka Raya: The Coordinating Ministry for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs' team members have planned to visit Palangka Raya, Central Kalimantan Province, on Sunday (Mar 31) for evaluating the city as a possible alternative capital city of Indonesia.
"The representatives are visiting to collect the required data on Palangka Raya as the country's new capital city," Secretary of the Central Kalimantan Provincial Government Fahrizal Fitri stated in Palangka Raya on Friday.
The ministry's team members will accumulate the data they need for conducting an assessment of the political, legal, and security aspects of Palangka Raya if it is chosen as Indonesia's new capital city.
Fitri explained that the team members would meet and discuss necessary issues with those from the relevant regional apparatus organizations within the provincial and district/city governments, as well as regional police and military, and other related agencies.
"During our meeting with the ministry's team members, we will shed light on the security situation from the viewpoint of defense, so that Palangka Raya can be deemed suitable for being the country's capital," he stated.
Palangka Raya has so far stood out as the strongest contender in the race for being the capital city of the government. The central government has gauged that Palangka Raya continues to outshine the regions of South Kalimantan and East Kalimantan.
Prior to the scheduled arrival of the Coordinating Ministry for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs' representatives, the Geospatial Information Agency had also conducted an assessment in mid-2018, during which the team was segregated into three groups for mapping the city's area.
"The mapping is conducted on around 300 thousand hectares of land that we have prepared for the discussion pertaining to the capital city of the government for future planning," Fahrizal noted.
The Geospatial Information Agency paid a visit in response to a request by Indonesia's Ministry of National Development Planning or the National Development Planning Agency.
"We also appeal to all stakeholders, including the community, in general, to participate in and support the discourse on the move of Indonesia's capital to Palangka Raya, so that it can be realized," he added. (Antara)
