Jakarta: Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan has urged Jakarta residents to celebrate Mawlid, the observance of the birthday of Prophet Muhammad, at home.

According to the former education minister, if people do not strictly implement health protocols during the upcoming long weekend, the covid-19 situation in Indonesia's capital may worsen again.

"In August, the number of covid-19 cases significantly rose two weeks after a long holiday," said the governor here on Monday.

"Use masks to protect others. That is key to tackle the spread of the virus," he added.

On Monday, the National Covid-19 Handling Task Force confirmed 3,222 new covid-19 cases, bringing the total number of confirmed covid-19 cases in Indonesia to 392.934.
From Sunday noon to Monday noon, the total number of recovered covid-19 patients across Indonesia was up by 3,908 to 317,672, while the country's official covid-19 death toll rose by 94 to 13,299.

Thus, the number of active covid-19 cases in the country currently is 61,851.
