Jakarta: The Great Indonesia Movement Party (Gerindra) has rejected a proposed amendment to the 1945 constituion that will allow a president to serve three terms.

Gerindra considers that the president should only be allowed to serve two terms.

"There is no urgency to extend up to three terms. It’s called democracy. this is the era of reformation. Two times is enough," said Deputy Chairman of the Gerindra Party, Sufmi Dasco Ahmad at the Parliamentary Complex, Senayan, Central Jakarta on Friday, November 22, 2019.

According to him, most political parties have not agreed with the proposal. He believes the discussion of this problem will be very long and winding.

"And Gerindra certainly will not actively participate in discussing it," said Dasco.

Dasco said Gerindra is keen to have a limited amendment to the 1945 constitution. However, he stressed that will only support the reintroduction of the Guidelines of State Policy (GBHN).

"In our party, there has never been any discussion, but personally I don't think it needs to be discussed," said the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives (DPR).
