“This means that we face nine disasters every day," said Doni at the National Coordination Meeting of BNPB at the State Palace, Central Jakarta, Wednesday, March 3, 2021.
According to him, every catastrophic disaster is spent with loss of property and casualties. In fact, Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani recorded a disaster loss of Rp22.8 trillion.
"This is a very large number. Not to mention if you look at the statistics of casualties from disasters in the last 10 years," he said.
In the last 10 years, 1,183 people have experienced natural disasters. The World Bank mentions Indonesia as one of 35 countries at risk of natural disasters.
"The government certainly does not remain silent. The President (Joko Widodo) has given directions to the National Coordination Meeting for Disaster Management on February 4, 2020 in Sentul that all government agencies, the TNI and Polri, and local governments must work together to carry out various prevention efforts," said Doni.
Doni population mitigation and preparedness can reduce disaster risk. Engaging experts to predict threats is also important for early warning and education systems.
