    Jokowi Visits Central Kalimantan, Inspects Food Estate Project

    Jakarta: President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has said that food estate projects in Central Kalimantan will require 30 thousand hectares of land this year.

    According to the President, a food estate project in Pulang Pisau Regency will cover 10 thousand hectares of land, while a similar project in Kapuas Regency will need 20 thousand hectares of land.

    "In the beginning phase of the food estate project here, 168 hectares of land will be utilized to plant rice," President Jokowi said in Pulang Pisau Regency on Thursday.

    Last month, Governor of Central Kalimantan Sugianto Sabran affirmed readiness of Central Kalimantan Provincial Government for the development of food estates in the province.

    The Governor also delivered his gratitude to the Central Government for the trust in making Central Kalimantan a national foodshed for agriculture and horticulture industries, fisheries, animal husbandries, and vegetables farms.

    Central Kalimantan is the second largest province in the country after Papua, with a total area of 15.5 million hectares.
