"I want large-scale social restrictions. The implementation of physical distancing should be more strict, more disciplined and more efective. I earlier said that the move should be coupled with civil emergency policies," President Jokowi told a cabinet meeting here on Monday, March 30, 2020.
Civil emergency status is regulated under Government Regulation in Leiu of Law (Perppu) Number 23 of 1959 regarding Emergency Situations. The status is initiated by the president or the commander in chief of the armed forces for the whole country or several regions in the country.
As of Monday, March 30, 2020, the Task Force for the acceleration of Covid-19 Handling has recorded 1,414 confirmed covid-19 cases, 122 deaths and 75 recoveries.
President Jokowi has repeatedly urged the public to implement physical distancing. He has also instructed his cabinet to study the impact of several anticipative measures, including lockdown and social restrictions.
"Everything should be carefully calculated," the president stated.
