Jakarta: Indonesia's Covid-19 Handling Task Force on Friday reported 10,614 new coronavirus cases, bringing the total number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Indonesia to 1,263,299.

From Thursday noon to Friday noon, the total number of recovered coronavirus patients in the country increased by 10,783 to 1,069,005.

Within the same period, Indonesia's official covid-19 death toll was up by 183 to 34,152.

Vice President Ma'ruf Amin has appealed to the public, especially senior citizens, to participate in covid-19 vaccination program in a joint effort to curb the pandemic.

For the record, the Indonesian Food and Drug Monitoring Agency (BPOM) has issued Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) for Sinovac’s covid-19 vaccine for use on the senior citizens aged 60 and above.

According to the Vice President, in order to reach herd immunity against covid-19, 70 percent of Indonesia’s population must receive the vaccine.

For that reason, the people are obliged to participate in the vaccination program until Indonesia reaches herd immunity.
