    Govt to Cooperate with Private Sector to Develop Covid-19 Vaccine

    Jakarta: Research and Techonology Minister Bambang Brodjonegoro has said that the Indonesian government will cooperate with private sector to develop covid-19 vaccine.

    "The Red and White Vaccine consortium wants to cooperate with private companies. There are three potential candidates," the former finance minister said at Bogor Palace, Bogor, West Java on Wednesday.

    However, the minister refused to reveal the three companies. According, they still need to obtain permits from the Food and Drugs Supervisory Agency (BPOM).

    "Our population is around 270 million. So, we may need 540 million doses. It means our production capapcity must be large," he explained.

    President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has formed the Team for the Acceleration of Covid-19 Vaccine Development. The team is based on the Presidential Decree Number 18 of 2020.

    The team is led by Minister of Research and Technology Bambang Brodjonegoro. There are two deputy chairpersons, namely Minister of Health Terawan Agus Putranto and Minister for State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) Erick Thohir. The team consists of various ministries and government agencies.
