For the record, the Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction is a biennial multi-stakeholder forum established by the UN General Assembly to review progress, share knowledge and discuss the latest developments and trends in reducing disaster risk.
The 7th session of the Global Platform is slated to be held in Bali province.
“These meetings, including one that will be held later in Indonesia, are aimed at monitoring, evaluating, as well as collecting various kinds of new trends as well as new methods adopted by various countries as good practices to serve as the basis for preparing action plans in the next two years,” Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture (PMK) Muhadjir Effendy said via video conference after a Limited Meeting on the Preparations of the 2022 GPDRR on Thursday, as quoted by the Cabinet Secretariat's website.
Muhadjir stated that the Government has started the preparation for the global forum.
The President, Muhadjir continued, also emphasized that this momentum should be utilized for the national interest of Indonesia.
It is an opportunity for Indonesia to promote good practices in disaster handling, both natural and non-natural disasters, he said.
The meeting, Muhadjir went on to say, should also serve to rebuild the economy due to the covid-19 pandemic.
