PDI-P attorneys who came were I Wayan Sudirta and Teguh Samudera. They were welcomed directly by KPU’s Chairman Arief Budiman.
"I just want to have a discussion," said Wayan at the KPU Office, Jakarta on Thursday, January 16, 2020.
The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) previously arrested KPU Commissioner Wahyu Setiawan, former member of the Election Oversight Body (Bawaslu) Agustiani Tio Fridelina, and a private individual by the name of Saeful. These arrests are related to an alleged bribery case involving PDI-P legislative candidate Harun Masiku.
Harun allegedly gave money to Wahyu through Saeful and Agustiani in order to smooth his way to become a member of the House of Representatives (DPR) to replace his colleague Nazaruddin Kiemas who passed away. Nazaruddin was a PDI-P candidate who won the most votes in the electoral district of South Sumatra I.
The KPK seized IDR 400 million in Singapore dollar denominations during this arrest. Wahyu reportedly received a IDR 200 million bribe.
KPK investigators initially wanted to search the PDI-P Office in Jalan Diponegoro, Jakarta. However, the search was canceled because the PDI-P security officers banned KPK investigators from entering. They were not able to enter since the investigators did not bring an official letter/warrant.
