Jakarta: Chinese New Year celebrations are considered an integral part of the cultural wealth of the archipelago. Chinese New Year has become an adhesive factor among the nation's children.

People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) Deputy Chair Lestari Moerdijat urged all levels of society to wish Chinese Indonesians a happy Chinese New Year which will fall on Saturday, January 25, 2020. She believes this holiday can help show the many cultures of Indonesia.

Moerdijat explained that the Chinese New Year strengthens Indonesian society as a multicultural and multi-ethnic nation. She added that Chinese New Year is a part of the nation's culture.

"Congratulations on celebrating Chinese New Year 2571," said Moerdijat, Thursday, January 23, 2020.

According to the NasDem lawmaker, cultural, ethnic and religious diversity is a necessity. There is no other choice for all children of this nation except to accept it. Diversity as the nation's main asset must be continuously maintained.

Moreover, the elite can be an example of celebrating Chinese New Year together to maintain national pluralism. There must be no party that consciously and deliberately spread sentiments that could threaten the diversity of this nation.
