    Rizieq Shihab Sentenced to 4 Years in Prison for Spreading False Covid-19 Information

    Jakarta: Muhammad Rizieq Shihab, former leader of disbanded Islamic Defenders Front (FPI) was sentenced to four years in prison on Thursday after the East Jakarta District Count found him guilty of spreading false information about the results of his covid-19 test.

    "Sentencing the defendant to four years in prison," said Judge Khadwanto.

     



    According to reports, prosectors recommended 6 years's imprisonment for the firebrand cleric in an earlier hearing.

    "I appeal the court's decision," the controversial cleric stated.

    Last month, the former FPI leader was sentenced to eight months in prison for holding public events in Petamburan area in Central Jakarta.

    In the same month, Rizieq was sentenced to a fine of Rp20 million for joining public events in Megamendung area in Bogor.
