    Ahmad Dofiri Named New West Java Police Head

    Jakarta: The National Police Chief General Idham Azis has appointed Inspector General Ahmad Dofiri as the new West Java Police head after he removed Inspector General Rudi Sufahriadi from the position.

    "The replacement is Inspector General Ahmad Dofiri," said the National Police Spokesperson Inspector General Argo Yuwono said here on Monday.

    Today, the National Police leader removed Jakarta Metro Police and West Java Police heads for their failure to enforce covid-19 restrictions in the two regions.

    Previously, firebrand cleric Rizieq Shihab attracted large crowds when he organized public events in Jakarta and West Java provinces. 

    Last week, thousands of Rizieq's supporters also gathered at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport wehen the Islamic Defenders Front (FPI) leader returned to Indonesia after nearly three years of self-proclaimed exile in Saudi Arabia.

    On Monday noon, the Covid-19 Handling Task Force confirmed 3,535 new coronavirus cases, bringing the total number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Indonesia to 470,648.
