Jokowi Visits Tanah Abang Market, Observes Launch of Phase 2 of Covid-19 Vaccination

Jakarta: President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) today visited Tanah Abang Market in Central Jakarta to observe the launch of second phase of the national covid-19 vaccination program.

During the visit, President Jokowi was accompanied by Minister of Health Budi Gunadi Sadikin and Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan.



"We continue the vaccination program that began on January 13. We vaccinated health workers in the first phase. The second phase was launched here at Tanah Abang Market," the President explained.

The vaccination batch two, which will be given to 38.5 million people comprising 16.9 million public workers and more than 21 million senior citizens, is expected to complete in May 2021.

People falling into "public workers" category are among others, lecturers, teachers, market traders, religious figures, legislative members, state officials, Government employees, personnel of the Indonesian Defense Forces (TNI) and the Indonesian National Police (Polri), public service officers, public transportation officers, reporters, athletes, and those working in tourism sector (hotel, restaurant, tourist destination).

Located near the Presidential Palace Complex, Pasar Tanah Abang Market is the largest textile market in Southeast Asia.
