Jakarta: President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) is unwilling to comment on the Government Regulation in Amending Laws (Perppu) related to the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) constitution. Students have given Jokowi a deadline to publish the Perppu KPK.
Jokowi had responded to several questions asked by reporters, relating to his meeting with PAN Chairman Zulkifli Hasan this afternoon. However, when reporters questioned him regarding the Perppu, Jokowi refused to comment and immediately left.
Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung also declined to comment on the issuance of the Perppu. The former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives said he did not know the extent of the issuance of the Perppu.
Deputy Expert of the Presidential Staff Office of the President, Ali Mochtar Ngabalin, admitted that he did not agree with students presenting a deadline for issuing Perppu. Students as intellectuals should be able to hold themselves without threatening officials.
"No one can threaten the President. This is the Head of State. Using deadlines to threaten is unjust," Ngabalin said in Jakarta, Monday, October 14, 2019.
Meanwhile, Special Staff for Communication Adita Irawati said that Jokowi had heard input from many parties related to the Perppu. Jokowi is also studying a copy of the Law from the House of Representatives (DPR).
"So maybe it still takes time, we'll just see the coming developments," said Adita.
