Jakarta: The government is asked to maintain the security and well-being of the citizens of Natuna, Riau Islands. Moreover, Natuna residents have protested against the government's decision to make Natuna a quarantine location for 238 Indonesian citizens (WNI) from Wuhan, China.
"All relevant ministries in the government must be able to anticipate that this will not create social upheaval in Natuna," said House of Representatives (DPR) Speaker Puan Maharani, at the Parliamentary Complex, Senayan, Jakarta on Monday, February 3, 2020.
The Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) politician asked the residents of Natuna to support government policies in minimizing the spread of the coronavirus. Especially, related to quarantine of 238 Indonesian citizens for two weeks.
"Their return was based on a humane and noble goal so they would not be affected by the coronavirus that was there," she said.
Puan claims that all Indonesian citizens have passed health tests based on the standards of the world health agency (WHO). She invited people to empathize to ensure the coronavirus does not enter Indonesia’s borders.
"This is how we as a nation must be united to be able to anticipate and do the things needed to maintain the Republic of Indonesia," she concluded.
