Jakarta: The Election Organization Ethics Council (DKPP) officially dismissed the Commissioner of the General Elections Commission (KPU) Wahyu Setiawan. Wahyu was proven to have violated the code of ethics and the code of conduct for election administrators.

"One, to grant the complaints of the plaintiff (the Election Supervisory Body or Baswalu) in full," said the Chairperson of the Election Organization Ethics Council (DKPP) Muhammad at the DKPP Building, Central Jakarta on Thursday, January 16, 2020.

Muhammad stressed the DKPP to impose the permanent dismissal of Wahyu. The termination is effective since when the verdict was read.

In addition, the DKPP ordered Bawaslu to oversee the implementation of decisions. Muhammad also asked President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo to implement the decision no later than seven days after it was read.

In the consideration of the DKPP, Wahyu as a member of the KPU showed partisanship and attitude that violates Article 6 paragraph 2 letter b of the principle of self-respect in conjunction with Article 8 letters a, b, and d of DKPP Regulation No. 2 of 2017 concerning the Code of Ethics and the Code of Conduct for Election Administrators.

The KPK conducted a sting operation (OTT) against Wahyu on Wednesday, January 8, 2020. Wahyu was suspected of accepting bribes from Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) Politician Harun Masiku.

The KPK also seized IDR 400 million in Singapore dollars while OTT at Soekarno Hatta Airport, Tangerang, Banten. Previously, Wahyu was suspected of accepting IDR 200 million in bribes.

The Anti-Corruption Agency named four suspects. Wahyu Setiawan and his confidants, as well as a former member of Bawaslu, Agustiani Tio Fridelina, became suspects of receiving bribes.

PDI-P Politician Harun Masiku and an accomplice, Saeful, are the suspected bribers. Saeful is suspected to be a staff member at the Central Board of the PDI-P.
