Jakarta: The number of active coronavirus cases in Indonesia doubled within two months, the country's Covid-19 Handling Task Force said on Thursday.

"The number of active cases doubled. In early November 2020, it reached 54 thousand people. Yesterday afternoon, it reached 112 thousand people," Covid-19 Handling Task Force Head Doni Monardo said during a teleconference.

"We need measured steps to stop the increase," the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) head added.

The Government will implement yet another large-scale social restriction (PSBB) on January 11-25 in the islands of Java and Bali that have seen a spike in the number of covid-19 cases.

the restrictions will be imposed in provinces, regencies, and cities that meet one of the predetermined criteria, namely:

    – The death rate is above the national average (3 percent),
    – The recovery rate is below the national average (82 percent),
    – The active case rate is above the national average (14 percent),
    – The hospital bed occupancy rate (BOR) for ICU and isolation rooms are above 70 percent.
