Jakarta: Heavy rains triggered floods and landslides in Southwest Aceh Regency, Aceh Province on Wednesday evening.

"The landslides were also triggered by unstable soil structure," said the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) spokesperson Raditya Jati in a written statemnt on Wednesday.

Based on a report from the Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) of Southwest Aceh Regency, the floods and landslides affected six areas, namely Blangpidie (Mata Le and Alu Mangota villages), Susoh (Padang Baru and Pulau Kayu villages), Tangan Tangan (Gunung Cut, Padang Kawa and Blang Padang villages), Manggeng (Tokoh I and Padang villages), Lembah Sabil (Tokoh II Village) and Babahrot (Mount Samarinda Village).

Responding to this incident, the BPBD's Rapid Response Team (TRC) visited the affected areas to carry out initial evaluations.

In addition, the local government also dispatched heavy equipment to clean up landslide materials in Gunung Samarinda Village.

Meanwhile, according to weather forecasts from the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), the dry season in most parts of Indonesia can still last until October, especially in most parts of Java Island.
