Jakarta: President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has ordered ministries and government agencies to anticipate the impacts of hydrometeorological disasters.

According to the Meterology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), due to La Nina phenomenon, precipitation would be higher than normal for the same period.

"It would be around 20-40 percent higher than normal," said President Jokowi here on Tuesday.

The opposite of El Nino, La Nina is a naturally occurring phenomenon in which sea surface temperatures across the central and eastern Pacific Ocean are cooler than average.

According to the BMKG's Climate Change Information Center Head Supari, a La Nina climate pattern has appeared in the eastern Pacific Ocean.

"We hope that we could anticipate the impacts of La Nina and hydrometeorological disasters to acgricultural industries," the president stated.
