Jakarta: Indonesia's Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) Chairman Bahlil Lahadalia revealed on Friday regions outside Java attracted more investment than provinces on Java island in the third quarter of 2020.

According to the BKPM, in the third quarter of 2020, investment realization in regions outside Java reached Rp110.4 trillion (52.8%), while investment realization in provinces on Java Island reached Rp98.6 trillion (47.2%).

This situation was in line with the acceleration of infrastructure development outside Java, the central government's first priority in the first term of the President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) administration.

"This policy has started to produce results," Bahlil said.

In addition, during the third quarter of 2020, foreign direct investment (FDI) realization reached IDR 106.1 trillion or 50.8 percent from total investment realization which reached IDR 209.0 trillion.

Nevertheless, amid the ongoing covid-19, FDI still managed to absorb 142,930 Indonesian workers last quarter.
