Jakarta: State-owned oil company PT Pertamina has inked agreements with three state-run shipyard firms, under the Manufacturing Industry Cluster (KIM), for the construction and maintenance of its ships.

The three shipyard firms are PT Dok and Perkapalan Kodja Bahari (Persero), PT Dok and Perkapalan Surabaya (Persero), and PT Industri Kapal Indonesia (Persero).

Deputy Minister of State Enterprises Budi Gunadi Sadikin noted at the signing ceremony here on Tuesday that the agreement was in accordance with President Joko Widodo's directive to give due priority to synergy among state-run companies to boost the level of local components (TKDN).

"We want to ensure that the economic machinery works to ensure the smooth running of the wheels of the economy at home," Sadikin affirmed.

The agreements were inked by Pertamina's President Director Nicke Widyawati, President Director of PT Dok and Perkapalan Kodja Bahari Wahyu Suparyono, President Director of PT Dok and Perkapalan Surabaya Bambang Soendjaswono and President Director of PT Industri Kapal Indonesia Edy Widarto.

Pertamina's President Director, Widyawati, spoke of the company having contemplated on the use of local components in its businesses and projects, including in the procurement of ships.

"Within the next five years, Pertamina will procure 48 ships, of which 15 will be built by local companies. This would become an initial move in the domestic shipyard development process to strengthen domestic businesses," Widyawati stated.

The cooperation with state-run shipyard firms will enable the company to obtain faster services in the maintenance and repair of ships as well as in the component replacement process.

"It can become more flexible, as we can move to the nearest dock, thereby making Pertamina's ship maintenance process more efficient," she pointed out.
