Jakarta: Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati claimed the government's decision to temporarily suspend visa-free and visa-on-arrival provisions for Chinese citizens is in line with current priorities. However, this decision will slightly affect the Indonesian economy.
"In this situation, we take into account our priorities first," Sri Mulyani said when met at the University of Indonesia, Salemba, Central Jakarta on Monday, February 3, 2020.
According to her, the spread of the coronavirus in China will affect the country's economy. In the end, the weakening of the Chinese economy will spread to the global economy, and ultimately affect the Indonesian economy.
She added that the performance of Chinese exports and imports is certainly experiencing considerable pressure due to the issue. In addition, the domestic consumption in China will also decline so that the right policies are needed.
"Cities and provinces there will prepare policies to counter the weakening," she explained.
"I think it will be very difficult in the first quarter and this will affect the rest of the world including Indonesia," she concluded.
