"The total length of the Pekanbaru-Dumai toll road is 131 kilometers," the former Jakarta governor told reporters after the inspection.
"We hope that the toll road could be operational during Lebaran holidays in the end of April 2020," the media-savvy politician remarked.
According to him, the toll road will reduce travel time between Pekanbaru and Dumai from 4-5 hours to only 1-2 hours. As a result, it will improve movements of people and goods between the two largest cities in the province.
The Pekanbaru-Dumai toll road is part of the 2,900-kilometer Trans-Sumatra Toll Road. The mega-project is expected to be fully operational by the end of 2024.
"460 kilometers of the toll road have been completed. 490 kilometers of the toll road are still under construction," he stated.
